Happy Sunday! ♡
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.
Additionally, I’m sharing a few tips that have helped me find, experiment with, and create my personal Style.
Finding your Style doesn’t mean choosing one aesthetic and sticking with it forever.
Additionally, it can change as you grow.
The best way to discover what you actually like is to try it.
1. Try the Style Before Committing to It
One of the most helpful things I’ve done when experimenting with a new style is investing in a few pieces that I’m interested in rather than completely changing my wardrobe.
For example, if you’re curious about trying a rocker or emo-inspired style, you could start with a black jacket, a pair of leather pants or jeans, and a simple white tee.
Wear the pieces for a day out, a date, or even while hanging out with friends.
Actually wearing the clothes can tell you much more than simply looking at photos online. You may love how an outfit looks on someone else but realize that you don’t feel like yourself when you wear it—or you may discover a style you never expected to love.
2. Ask Yourself: Do I Actually Want to Wear This?
Before purchasing something, think about whether you genuinely see yourself wearing it.
Sometimes we admire a particular look because it looks beautiful on someone else. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a style we want for ourselves.
For example, I’ve always admired people with tattoos. I think they can look incredibly cute and stylish, but I don’t think I would ever get one myself. Maybe I would have felt differently in my early twenties, but now it simply isn’t something I have in mind for myself.
And that’s completely okay.
You can appreciate an aesthetic without needing to incorporate every part of it into your own life.
3. Start With a Few Key Pieces
You don’t need to buy an entirely new wardrobe every time you want to experiment with your style.
Start small.
Choose two or three pieces that represent the aesthetic you’re interested in.
Then see how you can incorporate them into things you already own.
This also makes experimenting much less expensive. If you discover that a particular style isn’t for you, you haven’t spent hundreds of dollars building a wardrobe you’ll never wear.
4. Think About Your Lifestyle
Your personal style should work with the life you actually live.
Ask yourself:
- What do I normally do during the week?
- What do I feel comfortable wearing?
- What clothes do I naturally reach for?
- Do I prefer simple or statement pieces?
- What colors do I enjoy wearing?
- What outfits make me feel confident?
A beautiful aesthetic isn’t necessarily practical for your everyday life. The goal isn’t to recreate someone else wardrobe—it’s to find the parts of an aesthetic that work for you.
5. Use Technology to Experiment
There are also apps and digital tools that allow you to experiment with different hairstyles, makeup looks, and even clothing styles before making a purchase.
These can be helpful when you’re curious about trying something new but aren’t sure whether it will suit you.
Of course, they aren’t a replacement for actually trying something on, but they can be a fun way to explore different possibilities before investing in a new look.
6. Give Yourself Permission to Change
Most importantly, remember that your style doesn’t have to stay the same.
You might love one aesthetic this year and discover something completely different next year. You might combine several aesthetics or develop something that doesn’t fit neatly into any category.
That’s part of the fun.
Finding your personal style is less about creating the “perfect” aesthetic and more about discovering what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself.
So experiment. Try something unexpected. Keep the pieces you love and let go of the ones that don’t feel right.
Your style should ultimately feel like you.
With love, Ara ♡
